In 2013 with the kind help of the Lea family who suffered the loss of treasured family members (Mrs Lea lost her parents and sister, the Cheetham family) in the fire, we raised a petition of almost 2,000 signatures (online and paper) for the site to be taken off the market and a permanent memorial space developed there in recognition of this horrific event and in commemoration of the 50 men, women and children lost in the fire. The petition has now closed but if you would like to contact the MHK’s responsible for the site and it’s future development please get in touch with:
Mr Ray Harmer, MHK for Department of Infrastructure, tel. 843434; mob. 215577; email ray.harmer@gov.im

This site should be retained and dedicated to those killed. This was a huge tragedy with national and international significance. The lives of 50 men, women and children killed in the Summerland fire deserve recognition on the Summerland site.
