STOP PRESS!! SUPPORT FROM RICK WAKEMAN!
I’m very pleased that although Rick Wakeman is fully committed to travelling worldwide this year with his Journey to the Centre of the Earth concerts and his charity work he’s found time to let me know he fully supports the Summerland concert. He’s say’s ‘Although I moved to the island after the tragedy I certainly knew all about it and indeed learned so much more whilst living there. I had no idea that the place was derelict. Very sad. The site will always be tinged with sadness whatever happens to it so my personal view is that a fitting memorial and perhaps outdoor concert venue should be in Douglas/Onchan, but whatever, it should never be forgotten. I do wish you well and please add my name to all those who are supporting you in your heartfelt endeavours. All best wishes, Rick.’

I’m chuffed to hear from Prof. Ian Phillips who is a staunch supporter of our commemorations and efforts to develop a memorial space on the Summerland site. He has recently revised his book on the disaster to include us in the ‘Summerland in the Twenty-First Century’ Chapter 9. This will certainly reach out to those further afield who will know this huge tragedy has not been forgotten here on the island. See pages 707-709.

I’m very pleased that the Warrington Guardian have published a piece on our upcoming Summerland one minute silence and the Summerland Memorial Concert. Their ‘two sons of Warrington’ have never been forgotten and are remembered in the one minute silence along with the victims of the Warrington bombings at the annual Peace Cup match. I’ve been in discussion with Warrington FC and IOMFA and received much support and I’m hopeful that a match can be held next year in memory of the Summerland victims including Alan Barker and Sean Kelly of Warrington.
