Richard Davis lays the wreath
The Ellan Vannin Pipe & Drums
Our 2019 one minute’s silence on the Summerland site was for all of us who gathered there one of the most emotional ones we’ve held. The Ellan Vannin Pipes & Drums played such haunting tunes, the Manx Voices Choir sang Ellan Vannin so beautifully and Richard Davis, just a young Bobby back then, now retired, laid our floral tribute on the tarmac as we have no other place to lay it in remembrance of all those killed, injured and affected. We had with us this year two members of the bands who played SL (The Dave Lee Set and Just Good Friends) and were there on the night smashing through the plate glass doors between the Aquadrome enabling many to escape. Also remembered by friends from Warrington were Allen Barker and Sean Kelly, it was reported Allen saved 17 people that night but lost his own life helping others. I felt humbled once more by so many lovely people who all have sad memories of that night but stand in respectful silence, not out of duty or obligation but because this is where they feel they want to remember this huge tragedy which resonated around the world. Thank you all. We will never forget them and will continue to fight for a memorial on the site to lay our wreath in remembrance.
